Opening an account and passing verification
What you learn in 3 minutesThis lesson shows what a regulated broker in the Philippines must ask for when an account is opened, why each document is needed, and which checks can hold an application up. The cost of waiting is real: a delayed verification can keep money sitting in a bank transfer or GCash balance instead of being available to trade, and every day of delay is a day that ₱10,000 cannot be used.
Documents and timing for a Philippine application
| Step | Amount | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Identity document | Passport, driver's licence, or national ID | A regulated broker must confirm who is opening the account; the exact list varies between brokers. |
| Proof of address | A recent utility bill or bank statement | Usually dated within the last three months; the exact window varies between brokers. |
| Payment method | GCash or bank transfer | The name on the payment must match the name on the account. |
| Review time | Same day to a few business days | Depends on document quality and broker workload; this varies between brokers. |
| Minimum deposit | ₱0 to ₱10,000 | Set by the broker; some accounts open with no deposit. |
| One pip on one standard lot of EUR/USD | 10 units of the quote currency | 100,000 x 0.0001 = 10; converted at the current rate, which moves. |
The broker may round the conversion rate, charge a deposit or withdrawal fee, or quote a slightly different rate on the day. Any figure shown here can change, so check the broker's own schedule before sending money.
The mistake people make here
The common mistake is sending a deposit before verification is finished, then finding the money is held while the documents are checked. Another is uploading a photo where the corners of the ID are cut off or the address document is older than the broker allows. Instead, submit clear, full-page images first, use a payment method in the same name as the account, and wait for the verified status before funding. If a document is rejected, fix that one item and resubmit rather than opening a second account.Check yourself
A standard lot of EUR/USD is 100,000 units. One pip is 0.0001. How many units of the quote currency is one pip, before conversion?
100,000 x 0.0001 = 10 units of the quote currency. That is the figure before any conversion into pesos.
If the broker's review takes three business days and a deposit of ₱10,000 is sent on day one, how many days is that money unavailable for trading?
Three business days, assuming the review finishes on the third day. The money is held until the account is verified.
A reader uploads an address document dated eight months ago. The broker's rule is three months. What is the gap?
Eight months minus three months = five months too old. The document would be rejected and a newer one is needed.
